Experience

As senior trial counsel for THOMAS|LUCAS with over 34 years experience, Mr. Lucas has had extensive experience in all aspects of civil litigation including over 50 Superior Court jury trials, numerous bench trials, Superior Court judicial arbitrations,writs and appeals before Appellate Courts (several resulting in published appellate opinions) hearings on injunctive relief and
mandamus matters in State and Federal Courts, depositions, law and motion proceedings re discovery, summary judgment, demurrers, lis pendens, protective orders, trial motions in limine, etc. Responsibilities include litigation of cases involving business disputes, insurance coverage disputes, real estate transaction disputes, contribution actions between insurers, breach of contract, automobile liability, uninsured motorist binding arbitration, premises liability, product liability, wrongful death, general liability, construction defect liability, toxic torts, battery, civil conspiracy, mechanics liens, injunctive relief, adversary bankruptcy claims, wrongful termination, Labor Code violations, defamation, fraud, public entity liability, environmental claims, trespass, nuisance and high school sports administration. He has served as private counsel for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) [1979 to June, 1987], as an arbitrator for the Orange County and San Diego County Superior Courts, as a private arbitrator, as corporate counsel for small corporations, and he has qualified as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Diego County Superior Court. He has also been a continuing legal education program presenter through the San Diego Defense Lawyers Association, a panelist at the annual West Coast Casualty Construction Defect seminar and a committee member of the San Diego County Superior Court Construction Defect Case Management Order Revision Committee. Mr. Lucas has the highest peer rating given by Martindale-Hubbell (AV) and is a long time member of ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates).
